Inspired by Dirty Martini’s Zorita tribute at #vlv17 last night, a photo from one of Zorita’s well-known acts, the half-and-half. Wearing a costume split down the middle and carefully revealing one profile or the other to the audience, Zorita enacted an excited newlywed couple’s wedding night, the pair stripping each other down in anticipation of the marital bed. Zorita was known for boundary-pushing acts, including acts with snakes bordering on the obscene and the act Dirty Martini honored last night, where Zorita would get “stuck” in a spider’s web and have her clothes removed by groping hands emerging from the web.

Vintage 5x7 of Rose la Rose on a bear skin rug…I have read that she actually killed this bear, but I have no idea if that is true.

A candid photo captures baggy-pants comic Buddy O’Day ogling the ample bosom of Evelyn West, in this burlesque skit.. The duo appeared on stage at the ‘Stardust Theatre’ in St. Louis, Missouri; sometime in the mid-1960’s..
